Brian, It\'s really interesting to go to the US debt clock site here http://www.usdebtclock.org/ and notice the debt limit is blinking because we have reached the limit. Yet the debt continues to rise and a debt breach category has been established. The problem we have is that there is essentially no way to shut off the spending in the short run. why do we have a debt ceiling if all they do is raise it when they want to spend more? Is that really a ceiling – I don’t understand the sense of it.

The debt ceiling is a big deal, but I\’m actually happier that the spending cut debate is now going to be \”packaged\” with the debt ceiling debate. There are significant incentives on both sides to reach a deal. Dems need debt ceiling increase and GOP needs spending cuts.

Holly, I myself am less worried about the fiscal cliff than I am about the natioal debt Taxing more is bad enough, but adding a $ trillion or moore to that debt annually, is much worse. With fewer workers paying taxes, they (the Government – Democrats) will want to raise taxes even more. What will we do when intrest rates rise and a larger percentage of those taxes are needed just to service the debt?

It is great to see someone with a logical mind As I understand it, the real “fiscal cliff” is yet to come, if our Congress does not start working on the $11 trillion deficit. Just making ends meet for the next year (which is not going to happen anyway) does not constitute a “fiscal cliff” in my estimation, but it does help publicity for our newscasters

I read all your posts, and since we are like-minded, don’t comment too often. Many of your posts are controversial, which brings out the worst in people, and I believe people will be nastier in print than they would be face to face. Please don’t let that deter you. I find your posts very interesting. In fact, many times they confirm what I believe to be true. Thanks!

Debbie-I don\’t have to read the ADN comments to understand poor taste in comments. I can simply read the comments on my blog posts and responses to what I write on Twitter and the other social media sites I use to promote my blog. You can\’t do any writing without having pretty thick skin

Very good points Holly. My son did play with a pink Nintendo, and I do think boys would play with more pink, if they made more boy toys in pink. Gender toys are a funny thing. I use to not believe in gender play, until I had both a son and daughter, and they both think very differently.

I agree social media does bring out the worse in people, especially when they are some what anonymous. You should read the comments after a news piece in the anchorage daily news, some ate very poor in taste.

Excellent article! Personally, I will not purchase anything from California for these very reasons. Even though it is my own, personal boycott, any dollar I can keep from there is better spent elsewhere.

Great piece! I recently moved out of California for many of these reasons! That state was crushing me financially and I didn’t see any positive results from it! You should also mention the DMV fees which are absurd!
